SportsEngine Alternative for Youth Sports Clubs

Looking at alternatives to SportsEngine? What Rostered does for the week-to-week season, what it does not do, what it costs, and how a direct roster import makes running both a real option.

Looking for a SportsEngine alternative?

Ask the families in your club where they actually live during the season and the answer is usually a group chat, a forwarded email, and a schedule somebody screenshotted three weeks ago. That is the problem this page is about.

We are not going to describe anyone else’s product for them. Their site is the right place for that. What follows is what Rostered does, what it does not, and how to tell which one you need.

Registration happens once a year. Practice happens Tuesday.

That sentence is the whole decision. A platform built around annual registration, public websites and governing-body requirements is solving a different problem from the one that shows up every week: who is at practice, who is bringing the snacks, whether the field moved, and whether the parent who joined in October has any idea what is going on.

Rostered is built for Tuesday.

What Rostered does

  • Scheduling and calendars: practices, games and multi-day events at club, division or team level, with calendar feeds for an athlete, a family, a team, a division or the whole club that keep updating inside Google, Apple and Outlook.
  • RSVPs and attendance: answered per athlete and per day, reminders that link straight to the event, a live confirmed/declined/pending dashboard, then present-and-absent marking with excused reasons.
  • Team messaging: channels that create themselves with each team and division, role mentions, attachments, reactions, on-request translation, and club email that is also listed in the app so a family can find it again.
  • Rosters and families: divisions, teams and cohorts, with families as real records: one parent login covering every child.
  • Family registration: a public signup page where enabled, submissions held in an admin review queue, and matching against families you already have.
  • Volunteers: live scoring and expenses.

You can keep what already works

The roster import is the reason this is not an all-or-nothing decision. Export your roster from SportsEngine and import that spreadsheet, with a mapping step, a preview of every family before anything is created, and control over whether welcome emails go out. The step-by-step guide walks through it.

Plenty of clubs keep their existing registration and public site and run the season in Rostered. Switching platforms wholesale is a project nobody volunteers for, and it is not what this has to be.

What Rostered does not do

  • No public website builder. If your organization needs its public site built and hosted, Rostered is not that.
  • Governing-body requirements and multi-organization league administration are not what this is built around.
  • Live scoring covers a range of team sports, not all of them.

If one of those is the center of your problem, a platform built around it will serve you better, and you can still run Rostered underneath it for the week-to-week season.

The questions clubs say they wish they had asked

Read what club administrators write about youth sports software in forums, in reviews, and in the replies to any thread asking for a recommendation, and the regrets are rarely about a missing feature. They are about the terms.

Ask these of us and of anyone else you are considering:

  1. Is the price on the website, or is it quote-based?
  2. Who bears the cost, the club or the families? What does a three-child household pay across a season?
  3. Is there a percentage fee on money you collect? On registration fees this is frequently the largest line and the least discussed.
  4. Do parents see advertising?
  5. Is user data sold or shared?
  6. Can you export your own data, today, without a support ticket?
  7. Does one parent account cover several children across teams?
  8. What is the notice period if it does not work out?

What it costs

One flat monthly fee for the club, published: Squad $9 (up to 10 athletes), Team $19 (up to 25), Club $49 (up to 50), Academy $99 (up to 100), Elite $199 (up to 250). Free for parents and athletes, always, with no advertising and no selling of user data. Cancel and export at any time. See the pricing page, or talk to us above 250 athletes.

Try it alongside what you have

Start your club. No call, no countdown clock. Import your roster and run one season in it before you decide anything bigger.

Spend the season coaching, not coordinating.
